Discussing opinions

Inspired by our recent inquiry into the global goal on Energy,  Grade 3 English Language Arts learners had a classroom debate.

This picture provided our jumping in point:

  1. Learners were given the opportunity to share their initial thoughts.
  2. As we shared our thinking, we began to articulate some deep questions we needed to explore.
  3. Learners got stuck into doing the research. We looked for Facts, Reasons, Examples or Details about drilling for oil.
  4. Learners were placed into a team FOR or AGAINST drilling for oil and needed to argue their points (not their personal opinion). You can watch them here:
